Competitions and Festivals
Annually, Evergreen performs along with other elite groups in the Eastshore region at the annual Orchestra I Festival. This event is one that showcases the best orchestras from each of the leagues' twelve high schools, and is structured so that the three adjudicators can each give a written critique and score. Even though this event takes place during the day, outside audience members are always welcome, and there is no admission charge.
Another event that Evergreen musicians audition and are often invited to participate in are the annual All-State and All-Northwest honor orchestras. Musicians audition in Fall and perform in late Winter.
In mid-Winter, Solo/ensemble contests are intented to provide student musicians an opportunity to perform a solo or an ensemble in front of an adjudicator and a limited audience, and to receive constructive comments, both spoken and written, from the adjudicator. The primary benefits to the students are the experience of performing alone or in a small group, and a critique from someone other than their regular music teacher(s). These contests also serve as regional qualifying events for the State Solo/Ensemble Contest in the Spring.
